Powell River And Sunshine Coast

On November 12, 2007, Canada's west coast experienced it's first major winter storm of the season. Winds were the highest on record clocking in with gusts up to 124 km/h in Powell River and many other areas. Thousands were left with out power for many days. A number of highways were closed because of trees toppled across them. The ferry service was shut down for much of the day as it was too wild to sail. The storms seem to be increasing in severity each year.Is it an indication of global warming?Whether it is or not, take the time to put together an emergency kit for you and your family. You never know when a storm or an emergency will put you at risk. Please, rate my video and leave comments, too. Thanks.

The prairies can have some wild storms once in a while. I can remember a few when I was kid growing up there. I miss seeing the thunder and lightning storms. We sure don't get twisters like the ones that happen out there every now and again, thankfully.Out here it sure is different though with 50' to 100' trees swaying above you and wondering if they'll stay standing or drop on your house. Thanks for commenting.

I remember that, It made it over the mountains and whipped things around her on the prairies. It is very rare for such a storm still cause damage after going over the rockies.

After a storm sure is a great time to bring in some firewood. Makes it a lot easier. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers

Don't know if it's Global Warming, I can clearly remember being out of power for a few days in Wildwood and the Chimney being blown off in a storm. November was always the time for those crazy winds from the North West to come rolling in, who didn't go down to Gibson's Beach and buck up drift wood after a storm like that? I can remember a log barge lost its load off Harwood and all the logs were piled up all over from Sliammon to the mill.

I really think a road needs to be built, the ferry system is a joke and a half when in times like this you wouldn't be able to go anywhere. I have loved ones in Powell River and it worries me sometimes. Good video, we get high winds and stuff like that in Nanaimo on occasion, I remember the storm in November because we got it too.

Who knows. There is definitely pros and cons for both having and not having a road. One of the reasons that many people live here is because it is like living on an island. Sure, it is inconvenient some times but, it is great for keeping a lot of the big city problems out. One of the great things about this area is that when there is an emergency most people help one another. I'd rather be here than back in Vancouver or Toronto when an emergency hits. Cheers.

when are they going to build a road to Squamish? the ferries are a joke this is why we need a road for emergencies!!!

It sure can be stormy in the winter. This one was worse than normal. I was kept busy after the storm cleaning up and fixing storm damaged stuff. Thanks for commenting. Cheers
