This was recorded on Sept. 11, 1977. Bowie expressed reservations about the appropriateness of "Drummer Boy" as a duet piece, & - the day of - the holiday special, a team of composers & lyricists rewrote the song. Less than a month after this recording, Crosby died of a heart attack. At the end of the century TV Guide listed the duet as one of the 25 most memorable musical moments of 20th century television. Bowie still considers it one of the watershed moments of his career.

Can you imagine the weirding out this did to me the first time i saw it 15 years ago. I thought it was one of those Forrest Gump like film tricks cause i missed the intro.

Bing wanted to reach out to young people. His daughter was a big Bowie fan and recommended him. Plus there was a British theme to this special. It was so incredibly odd when it first came out but now it seems natural.

Bing Crosby owns Bowie. A lot. A very big lot. John Lennon is old? Oh my. Bowie does not deserve to be near Bing. Muahaha. A good rendition though. Sometimes Bowie is a little too loud and drowns out Der Bingle.
