It's all about safety - I had no idea whe I got hred what thell I was in for! But you know if something went awry I am confident that you would all be safe - amzing but true. I was brainwashed in how to save lives:)

As a bus driver who crossed on the ferry every day, I can tell you I'm happy to be away from that situation today. Waiting for over priced boats, cancellations of ferries, and not getting onto some trips due to no space, is something I won't miss. Being on the island was like being in a prison to me, I'm so glad I moved to Ontario, where even the wages are better.

you showed a 39 yr old crew member how to lower a boat? that doesn't exactly give me a warm all over feeling.

Did rode the Spirit of BC and it was comfortable and much brighter atmosphere.

I mean 22 million people and 8 million cars, wow we sure have grown, get my numbers right.
stinkyfreds (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Agreed, our young folks are very keen, professional and play a key part in making our fleet the safest in the world! We carry more then 8 million people and a million vehicles a year and our safety record is second to none. The North sinking was a tragic event but the prompt action of the crew prevented it from becoming a major disaster having saved all but two souls. The crew should be praised for their professionalism.

You think an older crew member knows more? Have you watched us perform emergency drills? NO. Have you watched us get tested and certified by Transport Canada on our life saving equipment? NO . Do you know what i did? No but i shall tell you. im 19 years old and an employee on the boats and i showed a 39 yr old crew member how to lower a boat because she didn't no. Older looking crew does not mean they're more expierenced. Private message me if you want to go into more detail
